I am trying (and rarely succeeding) to submit to the truth that I usually can’t change peoples’ minds, and it usually wouldn’t be worth the effort to try.

Then you'll enjoy this: it'll take me a while to get to the crux of my argument, but when I do, if you can refute it -- then I will become at least ambivalent regarding YEC/OEC, if not outright leaning toward OEC. It'll need a convincing explanation from you, one that can withstand some cross-examination -- but I'm open to it.

I suspect that truth should be relatively simple, and the fact that my case will take at least seven (lengthy) steps makes me wonder whether it might be flawed. It's not that I'm conjuring up insincere arguments -- I'm posting the best of my understanding here. But if an honest and direct stroke will cut through it, in the end I'll be grateful. I won't roll over, but I am open to persuasive rigor.

By the way, glad to hear you don't mind my slow response rate. :-)

Wow -- a pingback from Heidelblog only 15 minutes after posting shows that Scott Clark is not only a reader of Blogorrhea, but a fan!

Forester, same about me! I am trying (and rarely succeeding) to submit to the truth that I usually can't change peoples' minds, and it usually wouldn't be worth the effort to try. I'm enjoying the pace of our current discussion however. Let's keep it rolling slow.
