The African is Naked

Sunday night update: we were shown a great photo essay about the medical and missionary work being done in Karamoja by our church’s very own Dave Okken and others (I am hopeful that the video will be posted on the web soon, and I’ll give you a link to it).  In awe of the artistry of the photographs, and the conviction of the narration, all of us mature members of the congregation took in stride the picture of a naked boy, but of course, as it panned down I know we were all wondering — Is he wearing shorts?  No, looks like not, but is it going to keep panning down?  Yup, there’s a little crack; it must stop panning soon!  Nope, all the way to the feet apparently.  And amidst (undoubtedly) everybody thinking thoughts along these same lines, it was probably not surprising that some child speak up, but why did it have to be mine?

  1. Karen will get a huge kick out of this story! Wonder what pix they will be showing next Sunday. Can’t wait.

  2. Great anecdote, perfectly told. Love the way you universalize what everyone was thinking, and then wrap up with this great line: “it was probably not surprising that some child speak up, but why did it have to be mine?” :-)

  3. And if you liked that, you’ll love this story of a church stunt gone wrong…

  4. Pretty funny Rube. Told the fam – they all got a laugh.

  5. As I said, Karen got a huge kick out of this story and even told it to the woman cutting her hair today….:)
